Scott Tarcy: A Golfing Inspiration

Just recently, Planet Blacksburg talked with and documented a day in the life of one truly dedicated Virginia Tech athlete, Scott Tarcy. This is an individual who is beyond a doubt devoted to becoming the next big thing in professional golf. But the road to the pros is not an easy task for this golfer.

Tarcy spends every day at the Virginia Tech golf course, and if he is not playing a full round of 18 holes he is either on the driving range or practicing his putts. When not playing the sport he loves most, he is involved in intramural soccer and working out at the gym. This athlete puts quite the time into chasing his dream.

So when does Tarcy have time for academics? Surprisingly enough, this Virginia Tech senior is also a mechanical engineering major. And most engineering students will agree that the workload tends to be excessive and at many times challenging. Scott has worked on engineering projects that include the Urban Challenge, where students are given the task of testing vehicles that drive themselves. He has also designed and fabricated a fishing pole for the paralyzed, which won top prize in an engineering contest.

An athlete like Tarcy, who spends as much time as he does playing golf and handling the burdens of a difficult major, can be seen as an inspiration to many.

If you had any more years of eligibility left I would put you on the team right now. If only this article was written earlier!

Awesome video Scott! I hope you do indeed make it to the next level. Maybe someday I'll be watching you on the Golf Channel.
