The second floor of Squire’s Student Center looked like the entrance to a football game this past Thursday.

Students gathered at the Commonwealth Ballroom for the 25th annual Business Horizons Fair, sponsored by the Pamplin School of Business.

The fair took place on Thursday, September 20, from 10 a.m.-4p.m. in Squires Student Center.

Celebrating its silver anniversary, the completely student-run fair was a huge success with over 1600 students in attendance and over 150 companies participating.

This year 44 of those companies made their first appearances. By gaining these new businesses, the fair was able to broaden its scope so that students had new opportunities network.

The Business Horizons Fair allows recruiters to talk to students about career opportunities and gives them a chance to see the business world. “[The fair] is a good opportunity to meet employers, where they all come to you,” said junior finance major Tyler Hartsock.

The fair allows business to make connections for internships and employment opportunities later.  “It is really good practice for future interviews to meet with these employers,” said Jeffrey Moorfield, a junior finance major.

There was a wide array of companies present at the fair, ranging from finance companies such as First Command Financial Services and M & T Bank, to Mercer HR Consulting, which focuses on a wide variety of business skills.

The student volunteer-led fair had a massive turn out of students and a strong showing by all the companies present.
