A Concert for Virginia Tech will be performed tomorrow night in Lane Stadium. Here’s everything you need to know:
Tickets can no longer be reserved. For non-local faculty and spring 2007 graduates, tickets are available for pick-up on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
For those with reserved tickets, and who are unhappy with their seating section, there will be a ticket Swap Meet tonight on the Drill Field from 6 p.m. through 8 p.m. There will be six exchange points marked off by ropes according to sections. More information regarding those sections can be found at www.vt.edu/concert/swap_meet.php.
Faculty, staff, and students, as well as those who were first to respond on April 16, reserved over 45,000 tickets. Five thousand tickets were allocated for public sale to cover concert expenses. Public tickets are for sale on MusicToday.com for $65 each.
Classes and events are canceled Thursday from 5 p.m. so that everyone who would like to attend the concert will be able.
All parking lots will become available for use at 5 p.m. Students are urged to use Blacksburg Transit in anticipation of heavy traffic and congestion. Buses will run fare-free beginning at 3 p.m. through 1:30 a.m. Friday. Tailgating is not permitted.
Media will be directed to the football media parking lot, and visitors will be directed to the Chicken Hill parking lot off of Tech Center Drive.
The concert schedule is as follows:
6:35 p.m. – 6:55 p.m. – Nas
7:05 p.m. – 7:50 p.m. – John Mayer
8:20 p.m. – Dave Matthews Band
Security will be similar to that of a home football game.
Concessions will be available, as well as the sale of an event-specific t-shirt.
Worsham Field will be protected using a field protection cover system. The system is internationally known to be the leading form of turf protection.
“They say the field’s gonna be fine,” said Frank Beamer at the Tuesday football press conference. “Just looking out there and seeing everything on it, I’m not totally convinced, but I’ll take their word for it.”
