The Hokie Gobblers/Foxridge Apartments Intramural Flag Football Championships will take place Nov. 27 at the South Recreation Area Fields.
Intramural Sports Graduate Assistant, Kyle Warren, said this championship will be the conclusion of three weeks of round robin competition, where every team is scheduled to play two games and two weeks of single elimination playoffs.
Only Virginia Tech patrons are eligible to compete including students, faculty and staff, but anyone is able to attend.
Teams were formed individually and should have registered during the open registration.
Teams are split up into three sections. The sections are Co-Rec A, Co-Rec B and Men’s. MVPs for all sections are selected after the tournament.
Last year, the “Dietrick Dashers” took the Co-Rec A championship, “Cornerstone “took the Co-Rec B championship and “Konvicts” took the Men's Championship.
Kevin Price, business major and member of the team One Night Stand, said, “I’m really excited about the championships. There are a lot of really good teams and there is always a great atmosphere.”
Recreational Sports Marketing Manager Cathy Kropff said there will also be music, giveaways, contests and prizes at the event, compliments of Foxridge Apartments. The prizes include T-shirts, candy, water bottles and $50 gift cards to various local stores.
Last year the contests ranged from target throws to a wing eating contest.
The admission is free and there is no charge to participate in the contests.
“This tournament is part of the Intramural Sports program at Virginia Tech. Intramural Sports provides many different activities for students, faculty and staff to participate in to help relieve stress, meet new people, and have some fun,” Kropff said.
Foxridge Apartments, HOT100FM, Coca-Cola and Pizza Hut are sponsoring the event.
“We are always very involved with Virginia Tech. We like sponsoring [recreational] sports because it gets our name out there since most of our residents are students,” Mendy Sink, Marketing Director for Foxridge Apartments said.
The first game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Last year, the winner of the men's A league was not "Konvicts." The winner was SHOWTIME. I just thought that this should be pointed out, and possibly corrected. Thanks.
