SEANROD: The Future is Now

Sean Glennon is by far the best quarterback. He’s completed 62.2 percent of his passes this season for 1,462 yards and 8 touchdowns to just two picks. He looks cool and confident in the pocket and he appears unafraid to take off and gasp run for yards.
Tyrod Taylor has freakish athleticism. He’s accounted for 11 touchdowns (5 passing and 6 rushing) and it’s clear why Frank Beamer and Co. realized in the summer that they wouldn’t be able to redshirt the true freshman. He’s not yet a very good quarterback; his passes vary in accuracy and advisability but his uncanny ability to buy time and make people miss in the open field reminds everyone of you-know-who.
Alone they are but good quarterbacks. When their powers combine however, they are no longer mortals; they are SEANROD.
So why is the success of this duo so surprising?
The Hokie offense has never been terribly dynamic. In the past a stout running game and a tremendous defensive unit always managed to make up for the lack of a passing game. This year however, the running game has been almost nonexistent. Branden Ore only recently began to look like himself. If you subtract lost yardage for both players, Tyrod Taylor has rushed for only 370 fewer yards than Ore on the season.
Clearly, the Tech offense has said goodbye to the more conservative tendencies of the past by necessity and found something potent in the process.
Sean Glennon can now relax and not worry about if and when Tyrod will come in, he knows it will happen and has no problems with it. That’s the big thing here, both Taylor and Glennon are fine with the rotation. They know they both have limitations as players and are aware that getting both skill sets on the field makes Tech’s O very dynamic.
“I think both me and Tyrod, at points in time were a little … skeptical about who’s going to be the guy,” Glennon said recently. “Now, we’re seriously doing whatever it takes to win. That’s OK with us. We’re really just feeding off each other.”
The entire offensive unit is a much more cohesive group, and indeed this entire team has rallied around each other and looking to put the finishing touches on one of the best stretch runs in Hokie football history.
“The offense has answered, the defense has answered, and the special teams has answered,” head coach Frank Beamer said. “I think when you look at a very emotional loss and how this football team and how this coaching staff came back and won four games …that’s very satisfying as a head coach.”
As for the offense in particular, they know they’re hitting their stride at the right time.
“I think we’re much more confident,” Glennon added. “I think we’ve got a swagger to us that we didn’t have earlier in the season. We feel like can score points and get first downs on anybody.”
It’s tough to argue with that statement. Anything is possible with the power of SEANROD.
