Oprah Winfrey’s new television show “The Big Give” seeks to give back to those in need and ultimately reward those who perform the charity. Not all of the contestants, however, are strangers to Blacksburg; in fact, one of them is a Hokie.
Cameron Johnson, a 23-year-old self-made millionaire, attended Virginia Tech in 2003 – 2004. He was a student at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business. He left Virginia Tech in an attempt to raise venture capital on his Internet company.
Although his stay at Tech was brief, Johnson is still present in the classrooms. His book “You Call the Shots” is now required reading for many college classes including a class at Virginia Tech taught by Dr. Chris Neck.
Johnson has never forgotten the feeling of being a Hokie and the meaning that Virginia Tech held to him. “VT has always held a special place in my heart,” he said, “and I volunteer to help the university at every opportunity possible.”
Johnson said he has a passion for encouraging young people to follow their dreams and become successful as they see fit. He also said that he feels fortunate to be able to travel and speak to young people about achieving their life goals.
As far “The Big Give” is concerned, Johnson cannot speak of the events that viewers are currently watching unfold. He did say that as the youngest contestant he hopes his participation will motivate others to give in their own lives and communities. Johnson said for everyone to remember, “giving is never about the money.”

I absolutely love Cameron! He's doing very well on Oprah's Big Give, and I would encourage everyone to read "You Call the Shots". His life story is very inspiring because he shows that you can accomplish great things at any age, even if you aren't a computer genius or a college graduate.
