An event to be remembered…Holocaust survivor Nat Kranowski speaks about his experiences only few can imagine at Virginia Tech.
Nat Kranowski is a retired Radford University professor and a member of Hillel community, a nationally based Jewish student group on various campuses throughout the country. Fellow representative of Hillel, vice president of Tzedek, Julianna Wind said, “We are very excited to have him speak, as he is going to speak about living here, and dealing with a tragedy when you least expect it.”
During World War II Kranowski was living in France while it was under German occupation, when his parents were taken and placed in a concentration camp, while he himself was not in a concentration camp, he was a part of the war directly. Many survivors have been traumatized in various ways by the events of World War II, and some left paralyzed to speak about it.
The students of Virginia Tech are receiving a rare opportunity to hear a survivor talk first-hand about his experience, this should not be an event to miss. Kranowski has said he is open to idea about how the event will be run, it might be a speech or a combination with a discussion, and he is more than willing to answer any individual questions afterwards.
To hear him speak attend the Old Dominion Ballroom in the Multicultural Center of Squires Monday, March 31st at 7:30 p.m. The event itself is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Also, expected to be there, president Charles Steger and the Co-owner of Hillel International, Wayne Firestone.
For more information check the calendar on the Virginia Tech Website. However, the original speaker, David Ze’ev, is still listed on the event. Ze’ev is not a Holocaust survivor, he is a radio announcer.
Also, check the Israel Coalition on Campus website, which has more about individual speakers, as well as other events hosted by the Jewish community in the area.
Lastly, for more information see the Hillel: Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. Here one can find more information with regards to surrounding schools and schools across the country activities as well as upcoming activities at one’s own school.
