The American Cheeseball

Tuesday night on American Idol Kristy Lee Cook weaseled her way to a safe position with a cheesy patriotic performance. The contestants were to sing a song from their birth year, and good old Kristy Lee Cook picked “God Bless the USA” by writer Lee Greenwood.Devious, devious Kristy Lee Cook. While the song is a classic, well-crafted representation of American pride, Ms. Cook did not sing it because she is overflowing with patriotism. That song was obviously chosen because she knew it would appeal to her ideal target audience: Country music lovers!
Now I’m not putting down country music, but Cook clearly understood that the CMT audience would buy into a song with such strong “I love America!” lyrics, no matter how bad the vocals.
Week after week Kristy Lee Cook proves herself to be amateur compared to the other top-notch contestants. Let’s face it; the only solid vocal Cook had was her original audition when she sang “Amazing Grace”.
Cook is earning herself the same reputation that Sanjaya Malakar had in season six. We all thought it was cute when Sanjaya began the competition and then eventually became completely annoyed with his mockery of the competition. Sanjaya kept finding gimmicky ways to stay in the competition such as wearing his hair in a ponytail Mohawk and giving the little crying girl a hug.
Sanjaya’s awfulness also encouraged the “Vote for the Worst” craze, made popular by a website that supports voting for the worst American Idol contestant. If you check out www.votefortheworst.com right now guess who you will be asked to vote for? That’s right, KRISTY LEE COOK! The website sums her up with this quote, “We love your hilarious tactics to get rednecks to vote for you. Brilliant! Maybe you’ll be funnier than we thought after all. But we still don’t like you.”
Cook advanced to the top 10 because of her looks and now she is finding ways to manipulate country viewers. A pretty face and cheesy patriotism can only take Cook so far….I hope.

Doesn't really matter what you a@@holes say, her performance touched a nerve in people that care about their country, and their homeland.
The others tried to touch a nerve in people that only cared about themselves.
The selfish vs. the unselfish, there are more talented people in this show, but not more in tune with their audience.
So what is this show about - connecting with an audience, or connecting with a special interest group?
KLC won't make it to the final because she doesn't have the special interest groups organizing mass votes on her behalf.
I don't know if that is good or bad. Maybe all the fans at the other special interest group sites can shed some lite.

He is a fine young man who can sing and that's the reason he has a huge fan base and people love him. It's so sad for people to put those words in print and never bother to get to know who he really was. Wearing different hair every week was part of his performance. Comments like awful, shouldn't be there are very hurtful to the people who really like Sanjaya, and another sad thing is peoplewho love to hate just picked it up. Is is hard to spread love and not hate? If people will vote for Kristy, she has the right to be there.

Posted by doesn't really matter | March 28, 2008 10:02 AMRose, you are an idiot. Who told you you could write? Kristy and Sanjaya ARE NOTHING ALIKE!!!
Posted by Creamy | March 29, 2008 8:54 AMSanjaya did not use gimmicks and he was not aweful. He simply went out their each week trying to be fun and entertaining. Kristy is the one with the gimmicks to stay on the show.
Sanjaya did not stay on the show because of VFTW! They have no voting power as it is quite obvious this year. They have failed each time this year!
Sanjaya is a fresh and new budding artist. We Fanjayas love him and stand behind him 1000% and we are NOT all tweens. We vary in age.
Geez, get with the program lady! If you would like to get your facts straight, check out Dazeoffire.com
I love how people are so up in arms about this. "Fanjayas"?!? are you kidding me? That is the lamest thing I've ever heard. Besides, Sanjaya and Kristy are very much alike; both have vajayjays. And they both suck.

Posted by yeh but.... | March 29, 2008 2:48 PMHey rose I completely agree! my first thought when I saw that performance was "Oh my God. That is the cheesiest thing ever!" I know that AI is a competition of "get the votes" but i hate it when people take it too far with a cheesy act like that. I think that she should have been gone before this. I think that she is good enough for the top twelve but there is no way that she should have a bid for the next American Idol. I also agree with Sanjaya comments. I stopped watching American Idol during the times that he was on because i thought he made a mockery of the competition.
P.S. I totally think you can write and you do it well :-)
