The Virginia Tech community is not a stranger to Phil Vassar’s musical talent, after watching him perform alongside Nas, John Mayer and Dave Matthews Band during “A Concert for Virginia Tech,” in early September.
Vassar’s popularity after his short set earlier this school year is why Virginia Tech Union (VTU) avidly worked to schedule his return to the Virginia Tech campus, according to David Silberstein, of VTU.
Vassar, a Virginia native and Hokie fan, is returning tonight to once again, musically revive the community in Burruss Auditorium at 7 p.m.
“Phil Vassar is a huge Hokie fan! He only played an 18-minute set at the stadium show in September and many people have been requesting his return,” said Silberstein.
The return of Vassar has excited both the Virginia Tech community, as well as, Vassar himself. Silberstein noted that Vassar was very excited and quickly accepted the offer to perform for our community.
“The concert should be amazing,” said Katherine Keen, sophomore student at Virginia Tech. “I love country music and am a huge fan of Phil Vassar. It’s exciting to see him return after the impact he had on our community earlier this year.”
Phil Vassar concert tickets are currently on sale at a day-of-event cost of $20 for students and $25 for the general public.
VTU hopes to reach as many students as possible to encourage the Hokie community to come together to enjoy the performance and have a great time.
Vassar had an amazing impact on uplifting our community earlier this school year after the tragic events occurring in April; Silberstein felt he would continue to be a healing agent to the Hokie nation in his upcoming performance.
“He was so excited to play and so passionate about helping the students try to make it through a very tough time,” said Silberstein. “He truly cares about this school and wants to do everything he can to keep our morale up and support us…I think it [the upcoming concert] will have a similar impact…It will make us realize that even after one year we still have tremendous support from the outside world in regard to what happened in April last year.”
