Naturally Sharp, one of Virginia Tech’s all male a cappella groups, is currently busy preparing for its spring concert that will take place later this month.
According to member Robert Blackard, Naturally Sharp is constantly improving, and with the new talent the group has gained over the past year, this year’s spring concert promises to be one of the best shows yet.
“We’re continuing to practice three times a week, learning brand new songs and polishing our established repertoire, along with practicing choreography until our feet bleed,” Blackard said. “We’re also singing at a few gigs beforehand.” Naturally Sharp will perform at Relay for Life on April 18.
Naturally Sharp was founded at Virginia Tech in 2002, and it is one of only two all male a cappella groups on campus. The group puts on both fall and spring concerts, as well as multiple other performances, throughout the year.
According to Blackard, the audience can expect a great variety from multiple genres of music to be represented at the spring concert.
“Our repertoire is pretty eclectic,” Blackard said. “We like songs from the 90s, as well as stuff you’d hear on the radio today. Songs you can shake it to.”
Virginia Tech sophomore Megan Shepherd said she is looking forward to this year’s spring concert because every Naturally Sharp show brings something unique and entertaining to watch.
“I’ve been to about four of Naturally Sharp’s shows over the past two years, and they are always awesome,” Shepherd said. “The music is always great, and the guys are all really funny but still very talented.”
The mix of songs Naturally Sharp performs is sure to entertain everyone in the crowd, and the group believes that they have something to offer both genders.
“The girls should come to the show because most of our members are single,” Blackard said. “The guys should come hoping to get the attention of those girls, but should remember that they’re up against better-looking guys who can sings and dance at the same time.”
Naturally Sharp’s spring concert will take place in the Graduate Life Center Auditorium on Thursday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale two weeks before the show at the UUSA ticket office in Squires.
“Everyone should come because it’s going to be a great show,” Blackard said. “It should get you pumped for your Thursday night activities.”
