Homecoming 2008 Activites

Hokies across campus will don maroon and orange in celebration of Virginia Tech's 2008 Homecoming throughout this week, culminating when the football team faces Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Homecoming will offer a variety of events:

 

Voting for Homecoming Court begins 10 a.m. Tuesday and closes 7 p.m. on Thursday. Those with a valid Tech PID and password may vote for the king and queen online at http://www.vthomecoming.org.vt.edu/votenow.html.

 

The band Third Eye Blind will perform at Burruss Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.  The sold-out event is sponsored by VTU Concerts.

 

Wednesday at 7 p.m. Hypnotist Dr. Jim Wand will appear on stage in Squires' Commonwealth Ballroom. His show is free and open to the public.

The Black Student Alliance will host Laugh Riot featuring MTV's Wild 'N Out Comedians Leonard Robinson, Corey Holcomb and DeRay Davis at 7:30 p.m. in Squires' Commonwealth Ballroom on Thursday. The event is $15 for students and $20 for the public. The day of the show, ticket prices are $20 for students and $25 for the public.

 

The CANstruction Food Drive will be on display at 4 p.m. in the Lee Hall basketball court on Friday. For weeks participants have been collecting canned foods, bottled water and peanut butter. On October 3, teams from residential areas on campus will construct "CAN-structures" using the homecoming theme "Tradition Never Graduates." Collected items will be donated, on behalf of Hokie F6 and Hokies for the Hungry, to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southwest Virginia.

 

The homecoming Pep Rally will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. on the steps of Cassell Coliseum. The Hokie Traditions Homecoming Spirit Rally is hosted by the Student Alumni Associates from VT's Alumni Association. Hokie fans will have the chance to cheer on their team and Coach Beamer as they prepare for the homecoming game Saturday. Also, fans can view the traditional lighting Flaming VT.

 

The Greek community will host a stepshow at 8 p.m. on Friday in Squires' Commonwealth Ballroom. The show is $7 for members of the Greek community and $10 for the public.

 

A Late Night Party will be held in the Old Dominion Ballroom in Squires from 10 p.m., Friday until 2 a.m., Saturday. The price is $5 for all who attend.

 

The annual Homecoming Parade will occur in downtown Blacksburg on Main Street and Alumni Mall at 9 a.m., Saturday. Floats will reflect the theme "tradition never graduates." The parade is both free and open to the community.

 

The Hokies take on Western Kentucky University in the Homecoming Football Game on Saturday Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. in Lane Stadium. The 2008 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during a halftime ceremony.
