Just in Case You Missed it...90210

Episode 5:  "Wide Awake and Dreaming" aired Sept. 23, 2008 at 8pm on the CW

Annie, as Adrianna's understudy, and Ty rehearse for the school musical and things get a little "heated," to say the least.  Drama teacher and former West Beverly alum, Brenda Walsh, actually utters the phrase, "Ty and Annie are about to have sex on stage" to stage manager, Silver.

Naomi's mother, Tracy, can't get out of bed as she wallows in pathetic misery over Charles, her cheating-at-their-beach househusband.  Naomi calls her dad to tell him what a mess her mom is.  When Charles arrives, Tracy is up and around and looking like her gorgeous, well-dressed, in-control self.  She smacks him a couple times and they end up in bed.  Big surprise!  Later, Tracy tells Naomi, while simultaneously bagging up her husband's things to give to the "Malibu Mission," that she and her dad are divorcing. Homeless people in Malibu apparently wear Armani. 

Principal Harry (May I ask a practical question?  What is Harry the principal of?  I have never actually seen him with a student) gets a little tour of the auditorium from guidance counselor Kelly and hot-5 o'clock-shadow teacher, Ryan. Harry catches Annie and Ty lip-locked backstage.  He then laments how different the boys in Beverly Hills are from those good ol' Kansas boys.   Annie and her mom have a heart-to-heart about Ty.  The "sex talk" leaves mom feeling confident that her daughter will make the right choices.  Dad is not so sure!

Adrianna shows up late for yet another rehearsal and argues with Brenda.  She is clearly under a great deal of pressure at home what with all the trainers, commercial auditions, the school play and all the "voices in her head."  She lets us know how highly she thinks of herself and then shows us by doing an a capella version of her starring theatrical number. 

Naomi tells Annie "it's only a matter of time" before she has sex with Ty and that "everyone else has."  Annie insists she will do no such thing.

Brenda, Kelly and Ryan have a closed-door pow-wow about Adrianna.  "Is she using [drugs]?" is the theme and Brenda insists she can handle it. 

Ty lets Annie know that he has booked a room at the Roosevelt Hotel for the after-play party.  Annie's parents argue about letting her make her own mistakes.  We learn that Harry has a son running around somewhere as a result of his own "mistakes."

Adrianna's mom interrupts her daughter's warm-ups to tell her that she has invited a bunch of agents and producers to see the performance.   It's made clear that her mom is depending on Adrianna to get work so they will "both be fine". Adrianna disappears and shows up high as a kite so Brenda has to pull the plug.  Shock of all shocks, Annie steps up to the plate and sings her way into the hearts of all.  Ty sings his rockin' family-friendly number "It's a Bitch of a Living."  Again, maybe things at West Beverly don't adhere to your general public school rules of high moral standards.   Maybe next week they'll do the nude scene from "Hair."  One can only hope. 

Annie tells Ty that she'll meet him in their hotel room but Adrianna is nearby and clearly has an evil plan!  Annie borrows the condom Dixon has been keeping in his wallet for four years.  She drops the condom and, ironically enough, Ethan happens by and picks it up for her.  A lecture about her being with Ty ensues and Ethan tries to convince her to "wait for someone that cares about her."  Hmm...who could that be?  I sense foreshadowing. 

Evil plotter Adrianna shows up at Ty's room and tells him that Annie and Ethan were having a "make-out session" when they left the play together.  Later when Annie shows up at the room, Adrianna answers the door wearing nothing but a towel and tells Annie that Ty is in the shower 'washing off."  Gross!  Poor Annie bolts and has a meltdown in front of Ethan and Naomi about Ty and Beverly Hills in general.  You're not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy!  Little does she know that Ty was most definitely not in the shower nor even in the room.  Monday morning is going to be really awkward for these people.   

Dixon and Silver bond by making out by the pool for the remainder of the evening.  Meanwhile, Annie returns home early, much to her father's relief, and cries through the closing credits, dramatically sliding down a wall in really high heels while trying to make sure we can't see her underwear underneath that ludicrously short dress.  There is no easy way to do that, folks, but all soap opera actresses are required to do 'the slide' at some point in their career.  Who will do the slide next week?
