Patriot Day 2008
By Jenna NicholsSeptember 11, 2008
Gov. Tim Kaine issued an order Tuesday, Sept.9, stating that not only will American flags be flying at half-staff for Patriot Day, but on Sept. 11, the Virginia Commonwealth flag will fly at half-staff as well.
To honor those lost on Sept. 11, 2001, President George W. Bush ordered that American flags across the country be lowered as a sign of remembrance and respect. To show Virginia's support, Gov. Kaine requested the additional lowering of the commonwealth's flag.
On the Virginia Tech campus flags can be seen at half-staff in various locations including in front of Burruss Hall as individuals remember the events that took place seven years ago.
Virginia flags in Blacksburg and across the state will remain at half-staff until sunset.
