The Lady Hokies accomplished an impressive win over the neighboring Highlanders of Radford University. The Hokies, coming off a close victory over University of North Carolina Greensboro last Friday, won the game over Radford 78 to 54 .
The Hokies never trailed throughout the night and made 49 percent of the 59 shots they attempted during the game.
The Highlanders, on the other hand, only made 34 percent of their attempted field goals. They did, however, more than double their points from the first half to the second.
Despite the big win, Virginia Tech struggled numerous times throughout the night. Passing the ball is the area the Hokies faced the most self-inflicted adversity. The Hokies had twenty-two turnovers , one fewer than Radford.
Virginia Tech has had to make adjustments since losing senior Brittany Cook, the leading scorer of the ACC last year, to a season-ending knee injury. Without Cook, the rest of the squad has needed to step up. That is exactly what sophomore Shani Grey did.
Grey's previous career high for points was eight, which she accomplished twice last year. In this game, however, Grey shattered that mark by scoring seventeen points. Grey also pulled down six rebounds.
The win over Radford leaves the Hokies with a 2-0 record. Virginia Tech will next take on North Carolina Central on Thursday at 7:00 in Cassell Coliseum.
