Baseball Sweeps Terps

With
conference wins at a premium, the Hokies Baseball traveled up to
Steve
Bumbry, CF, led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, along with Mike
Kaminski, RF, with two hits and one RBI to give the team a 5-3 win the first
game of the series. Rhett Ballard, P, got the win after seven innings pitched;
giving up five hits for three runs, and had two strikeouts, bringing his
personal record to 4-2. Dave Zappacosta, P, and Ben Rowen, P, were able to
close the game by allowing no hits or runs.
The second
game of the series was even closer, with the Hokies claiming the win 4-3. Ty
Hohman, 3B, and Buddy Sosnoskie, 1B each contributed a hit and an RBI. Justin
Wright, P, earned his third win (3-1) after seven innings pitched. Wright gave
up five hits for three runs, and threw four strikeouts. Virginia Tech's dugout
proved successful again with Sean McDermott, P, and Brandon Fisher, P, closing
out the last two innings without giving up a hit.
After two
close games, the Hokies ended the series on a convincing 5-0 victory. Bumbry,
CF, had one hit for two RBIs, while Anthony Sosnoskie, C, gave Tech three hits
and an RBI, and Ronnie Shaban, SS, contributed one hit and an RBI. Matthew
Price, P, earned the win after 5 innings pitched, giving up three hits and no
runs. Price also threw five strikeouts and improved his record to 3-1. Jesse
Hahn, P, and Rowen closed the game out with excellent defense, giving up one
hit apiece.
Next game on
the schedule is Wednesday, April 15th when the Hokies travel to
