A slim 50 points separate five drivers from the top spot in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series at Motor Mile Speedway.
Motor Mile Speedway is having a scout’s night on June 27 from 7 to 11 p.m. Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts can wear their uniforms and be admitted in to the race free of charge. They also have the option to pre purchase a Motor Mile Speedway patch for their uniform.
If you have a college ID you can get in general admission free of charge. Dede Stone who works with Motor Mile Speedway said “this year we have anywhere from 30 to 50 college students who are taking advantage of that discount”. General admission is $5 for adults, children under 12 get in for $1. Motor Mile Speedway also offers a pit pass for $35 and that gives you access to the pit area for the night.
The racetrack is also the stage for a close point’s race in the Late Model Stock Car class. As of June 13 there are only 50 points separating 5th place driver Tommy Lemons Jr. and first place driver Philip Morris. Lemons has won three races this season with two of those wins coming back to back and Philips has won four. Those two combined have won all seven races in their class.
Another driver to watch out for would be Brandon Dean who has seven top ten finishes and three top five finishes this season. Dean has been in the top ten or better every race this season.
Randy Merriman, an official at Motor Mile Speedway, said the series attracts drivers from all over the state, and some out of state drivers as well. Some drivers come from North Carolina to race at Motor Mile Speedway.
The track has anything from bologna burgers to fried Oreos. The Oreos are covered in funnel cake batter and then fried, always a favorite among the fans.
Motor Mile Speedway is also a NASCAR Sanctioned track, and will be hosting an array of different NASCAR sanctioned racing divisions on the 27th like the Late Model Stock Car, Limited Sportsman and one non NASCAR sanctioned race, the Mini-Cup.
