Public Relations Students Wanted!
August 24, 2010Would you say you're friendly and outgoing? Like to chat and interact with a variety of people? Think you could engage with the community, attract readers and create partnerships? If so, then we'd like to hear from you!
Planet Blacksburg is looking for students in the public relations realm to interact with the surrounding community, different organizations on and off campus and, of course, our readers. Care to help increase our exposure and drive traffic to our website? If you're interested in working with us, your responsibilities include:
- Attend weekly meetings on Mondays, 6 p.m. on Virginia Tech campus.
- Use social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to interact with the community.
- Reach out to other Virginia Tech organizations to expand our network and partnerships.
- Promote content that's on the website.
- Brainstorm different ways to increase traffic to our site.
- Stay up-to-date on events that are happening on and off campus.

This is a really great opportunity! I'm a PB alumni, and studied PR and Marketing, and worked as a staff writer and editor. PB definitely opened up some doors for me. I currently work as the Marketing Manager for the United Way of South Hampton Roads. Great resume builder, and wonderful experience!

We have a couple students who are interested in the PR aspect of Planet Blacksburg. I'm excited to get these students involved and teach them about social media and the value of connecting with the community via social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. It's going to be a fun experience to say the least. Stay tuned!
