Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is sponsoring a concert this Friday, September 22, at Burruss Auditorium with musical performances by two of Def Jam’s newest artists Megan Rochell and Shareefa.  The show starts at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.  Cingular and Def Jam will both be represented at the show selling phones, tee-shirts and other miscellaneous products.

Megan Rochell was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised by her grandmother until the age of 18.  She then moved to Philadelphia, Pa., to pursue her music career.  From the time she was 11-years-old singing in her church choir, she always knew what her destiny would be.  After some lucky encounters with some very important music moguls, she auditioned on the street in front of one of the members of Boyz to Men and he immediately snatched her up and gave her an audition in front of L.A. Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group.  She was immediately sign to the label and has her debut album entitled, “You, Me and The Radio” coming out soon.

Shareefa, hailing from Newark, N.J., is the first soul woman signed to Disturbing the Peace/Def Jam.  Her debut album, “Point of No Return” will be dropping October 17, 2006.  Her influences for the album range from Mary J. Blige to Faith Evans to Patti LaBelle to even Ludacris.  Much like Rochell, Shareefa also had to audition on the street in front of a music executive.  She must have done a good job because later that day she got a call saying they were going to sign her; and the rest is history.
