Tech Takes Care of Business, Downs Morehead State, 77-64

Tech Women rollFour days after nearly pulling a huge upset against Duke, the Hokies averted one against Morehead State, winning 77-64. In their final non-conference game, Virginia Tech dominated down the stretch, pushing their lead to 20 points with just over four minutes remaining.

Kirby Copeland led the Hokie offensive surge, as she knifed through the Eagle defense from start to finish. Copeland led all scorers with 28 points, which matched her career high.

Morehead State hung in tough through the first 25 minutes. The Eagles clawed to within six points late in the first half and seven points early in the second, but it was all Hokies the rest of the way.

The victory lifts Virginia Tech’s record to 15-9 and 11-5 outside of the conference, while Morehead State drops to 12-11. Sophomore Brittany Cook turned in another strong performance with 13 points and three steals, and senior Britney Anderson added another 12 points.

Tech plays its second consecutive home game against Georgia Tech on Monday at 7 p.m.
