Virginia Tech will play Georgia Tech this weekend minus two of its top performers after the players were arrested over the weekend. Head coach Frank Beamer announced Monday that defensive end Chris Ellis and split end Josh Morgan have been suspended for this one game.

According to Blacksburg Police Lt. Joe Davis, the pair was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after police responded to reports of a large crowd and potential fight on Draper Road. Upon police arrival, Morgan was seen exhibiting behavior the officer deemed disorderly and was told to leave the area. Morgan refused and was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer. Ellis was also arrested and charged with obstructing an officer after he attempted to protest Morgan's arrest.

All charges are considered Class I misdemeanors. The players were released on personal recognizance bonds and are set to appear in court on October 5.

Ellis, a redshirt junior from Hampton, Va., started each of the four games Tech played this year.  He has 12 tackles, including a sack, and four quarterback hurries under his belt thus far.  Prior to the start of the season, Ellis was named to the watch list of the 37th Rotary Lombardi Award for the nation’s best collegiate lineman.

Morgan, a junior from Washington, D.C., has blocked two kicks this season and is the second-leading receiver on the team with 161 yards and two touchdowns.

The replacement starters have not yet been determined.
